Bagel Bowl XLV
Friday, February 3rd, 2012
The Superbowl – a quintessential American event. A staple of America for years upon years. And like any American staple, where would it be without the food? I think the Superbowl is probably one of the American events that most easily benefits from the invention of the bagel.
The bagel itself resembles a stadium in form, instantly offering a distinguishing factor amongst other, lesser wheat based products. They can be served with all manner of vegetable and cream cheese based dips. When toasted, they become suitable for transporting salsas, bean dips, and various cheeses. When sliced thin and baked, they are great for your spicy three-cheese bean dips, hummus, and clay pigeon target practice.
Perhaps the best use is the Pizza Bagel, which is probably the best all-around food ever invented. It has breads, dairy, fruits and vegetables, and meats. It’s perfectly hand-sized – you don’t have to worry about a slice – you can literally eat your own personal portable pizza!
The whole night is generally viewed through the golden or amber lens of a finely crafted American brew – also known as the ‘barely pop’ or ‘ale.’ We draw large tankards of the delicious stuff, colored with golden sunlight
But let’s be honest. The ‘Superbowl’ we all know and love really isn’t the two teams competing on a field of grass so green and well trimmed it looks like astroturf. The ‘Superbowl’ is actually a big ole’ punch bowl filled with jalapeño cheddar cheese dip, refried beans, salsa, corn chips/Frito’s, and the occasional chili. Somewhere, deep inside the soul of every man, woman, and child sitting beside that bowl, we know the secret of the universe exists somewhere at the bottom of that bowl.*
So as you’re sitting on the sofa Sunday night, wondering what you should feast upon this sacred night – remember the bagels!
So work your way to the kitchen and pass around some bagels! We have Goal Line Grain, Off-Sides Onion, Blitz Blueberry, and other great treats, along with multiple types of cream cheese - including regular, honey nut, and chive.
Enjoy everyone!
*It may be that the secret to the universe is Pepcid.
